DORSAL is an organisation dedicated to halting the slaughter in the seas. We want to ban the sale of shark products around the globe and stop the finning of sharks, a cruel and barbaric practice that kills almost 100 million sharks each year. This equates to 190 sharks per minute.
“I was horrified to see videos of sharks thrashing in the water, gashes on their back where their fins used to be. The oceans would be unbalanced without the survival of sharks. I want to do whatever I can to put a stop to this cruelty.”
Madeleine Ryan, founder, DORSAL (14 years old)
Short documentary by Wired Magazine about the spiralling numbers of sharks killed each year.
The sharks have their fins cut off while still alive and they are then dumped back into the water, to sink to the bottom of the ocean, where they will die a slow and painful death.
We are raising awareness of the cruelty of shark fin soup and petitioning governments to enact legislation to prevent further killing.
